I have always been a fan of Anne Murray so I was glad to see she wrote an autobiography a few years agone. She writes of being born in Canada in the mid 40s. growing upward with five brothers. Finding she had a good singing voice. She writes of her over 40 years in the music concern the ups and downs of her long career. A good book fans of this talented singer may like her memoir. I did.

Nosotros really read very few non-fiction books, and cannot fifty-fifty think the last time we read a biography. But being a life-long fan of Anne Murray, who turns out to be just 1 year older than us, somehow this opportunity to larn almost i of my favorite singers only seemed right. And a lovely circuit into an incredibly long show business career (l+ years, she just retired in 2008...) this turned out to be. Delivered in a depression-profile, conversational tone so typical of her life equally a celebrity that was always more interested in her roots and her family than in her own notoriety, reading her story was almost similar being invited into her living room for a Saturday afternoon chat -- just pleasant story-telling, equally of the highs and the lows of her lengthy career, by which nosotros learn immensely of a lovely adult female and ane of the most "solid" performers of our lifetime.

Along the way, we find much most the music "biz", much of information technology somewhat disheartening, nearly all of information technology highly informative. We were specially distressed to find out how much she was forced to tour to promote her own "albums", and how much trouble she had keeping band members sober plenty to perform! Fortunately, she herself rarely consumed alcohol; and despite the drug culture rampant in the field, stayed away from the bad stuff.

Along the way, we larn much of her family stories, her own favorite singers, what led to selecting the songs that became hits, how she moved from label to label, from producer to producer, and so on. All in all, a very charming book, highly reflective of the charm of Murray's ain persona - no doubt, merely as she intended !

She tells her story only and honestly - there is no brushing over of events and she makes no apologies for the decisions she made. Reading her book is like listening to a story told by a friend.

Hardcore fans volition take a lot of this retelling for granted, and pull out the truly golden nuggets: that iconic photo with Alice Cooper, John Lennon (et.al.) was coordinated near immediately by a new LA-based director in order to aggrandize her mainstream visibility and credibility; she wasn't nominated for Country category Grammys after arguably her well-nigh successful year because "the jury" accounted her too ambiguously pop; her deals with Capitol Records were creatively generous all through the 70s and most of the 80s, until she was dumped on the Nashville doorstep and then, in 1992, dropped entirely.

An easy breezy read.

Straightforward memoir past Canadian songbird, Anne Murray. I read this book when it was first published and greatly enjoyed it. I recollect I enjoyed it even more than this time around. It's astonishing what ane forgets over time and I relished being reminded again, in Anne's own unique voice. A very detailed account of her life & career, from her early babyhood to her retirement. Lots of personal photos. I've been an unabashed fan of AM since I first heard her singing on a recording made at a UNB Black & Ruby Revue while she was a student in that location.

Prove business of whatever type isn't an easy thing to break into and one time you do, to keep oneself on an even and responsible plane can be difficult. Not caving into the pressures of the glitz, glamour, drugs and booze is often a nightmare that plunges many singers/actors into a habitual and recurring stay in rehab. Anne Murray, nevertheless, hailing from a close-knit family has drawn on the values and morals instilled past her parents and was able to cleave out a successful career for herself, simply not without some pains, gains, losses, and hard decisions. Afterward 40 years in the limelight, Anne continues to be respected by colleagues and fans from around the globe.

Anne is CANADIAN and refused to reside in the United States where anyone who "makes it" seems to go. Instead she choose to reside in Thornhill, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto where she set up her marriage to Beak Langstroth and raised their ii children Will and Dawn.

Anyone who is a fan of Anne Murray will delight in reading this autobiography.

I started reading this book ix weeks agone from Stephenville Library NL, Canada. I really enjoyed reading this volume by Anne Murray. It gave me a lot of insight into a well known creative person and musician from Springhill, Nova Scotia. Her talents, her love for music and recording over 37 albums in the space of twoscore years. I ever loved her music from the first record I heard dating back to 1975. I would recommend this book especially to musicians and anybody who was and however is a fan of Anne Murray.

Equally entertainment memoirs go, this one is pretty tame. Even when she writes nearly people in her life who had habit bug or who tried to get her in bed, she tells it such a squeamish Canadian way that it seems most wholesome. Over a long music career Murray met and/or performed with a who's who of 20th-century land and pop music.
